Osteoarthritis and How to Manage It

Osteoarthritis usually impacts people who are 40 years old or above, especially women and those who have a family history of the condition. Although it is more common among older individuals, it can also occur at any age as a result of injury or other joint conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis.

If you experience mild symptoms of osteoarthritis, there are several lifestyle changes you can make to help manage the symptoms. These include losing weight if you are overweight, wearing appropriate footwear, exercising regularly, and using devices that can reduce the strain on your joints daily.

In cases of more severe symptoms, a physiotherapist may prescribe painkillers and an exercise plan. Surgery may be recommended for a small proportion of patients where previous treatments have been ineffective. The surgery aims to replace severely damaged joints or repair and strengthen affected joints.
